Ultra L3 or RACE? Which Fliteboard Truly Fits Your Riding Style
A rider-focused comparison of Ultra L2, Ultra L3 and RACE – based on real back-to-back testing, not marketing specs
Choosing the right Fliteboard has never been more interesting. With the arrival of the Ultra L3 and the RACE board, many riders are asking the same question. Which board actually fits my riding style best.
We have been riding Fliteboards for years, in schools, on adventures, on rivers, in the ocean and in some fairly remote places. When new boards arrive, we do not just look at specs. We ride them hard. We compare them back to back. And we listen closely to what changes really matter on the water.
In this article, we break down the differences between Ultra L2, Ultra L3 and RACE. Not as a marketing list, but as a rider focused comparison.

Ultra L2 to Ultra L3
Evolution done properly
At first glance, Ultra L2 and Ultra L3 feel closely related — and they are. But when ridden back to back, the refinements become clear.
One of the most noticeable updates on the Ultra L3 is the adjusted mast position, creating a closer and more direct ride feel. The board reacts faster to input and feels more connected under your feet, something experienced riders will notice immediately.
The added tail kicker is another meaningful upgrade. It improves grip when loading the board in turns and adds control in waves or during quick acceleration. Subtle, but once you have it, you appreciate it.
The smaller battery compartment fits the board’s character perfectly. Ultra is about lightness, agility, and precision, and reducing unnecessary volume keeps the board compact and responsive.

Ultra versus RACE
Different tools for different goals
The biggest functional difference between the Ultra boards and the RACE board becomes clear when you look at battery compatibility.
Ultra boards are designed around lighter batteries like Nano or Sport. RACE is built to also take the Flitecell Explore battery.
This matters because speed consumes energy. A lot of it. Being able to pair RACE with Explore means you can maintain high speed for longer runs. This makes RACE a true performance tool rather than just a faster Ultra.

RACE board details
Built for speed and stability
RACE has a longer and narrower shape, designed to track efficiently at higher speeds. It also features the updated battery hatch design, which makes the board slimmer and cleaner overall.
Like Ultra L3, RACE includes a kicker at the tail. On RACE it serves a slightly different role. It helps stabilize the board under hard acceleration and gives confidence when pushing into higher speed ranges.
Paired with Jet C propulsion and the race impeller, the board delivers a level of speed and control that clearly targets advanced riders and racing oriented setups.

Ultra L2, Ultra L3 or RACE
Which one should you choose
Ultra L2 remains an excellent performance board and is still a favorite among many experienced riders.
Ultra L3 refines the concept further. It is lighter, more direct and better suited for riders who value responsiveness and control.
RACE is a different chapter. It is designed for speed, efficiency and stability at velocities that go well beyond what most boards are built for.
Each board makes sense. The key is matching it to your riding style and goals. That is why we always recommend testing.
Both Ultra L3 and RACE are officially announced for availability from March. Being eFoil Riders, we are already working to have them available for testing earlier at our locations in Germany, Mallorca, Ibiza and Croatia.
If you want to compare setups, try different wings or simply feel the difference yourself, book a test session. It is the best way to find your perfect board.
