Some people see the first leaves falling and think the season is over. We see snow on icy riverbanks and think those are the perfect conditions to start preparing for summer.
At eFoil Riders, we don’t believe in the “off-season.” We believe in the “advantage season.” While most people are huddled by a radiator, our community is out on the water, dialling in their setups. We want to make sure you are the first one flying when the crowds finally wake up in June. If you are waiting for 25°C to start your journey, you might be what our German friends call a Warmduscher. But on the river in January, there is no room for lukewarm efforts.

During the boot 2026 expo in Düsseldorf, the Rhine was not exactly inviting to the average onlooker. But for Lit, it was just another day at the office. If you are part of our community channels, you already know Lit. He is a legend in our circle, constantly posting clips of himself carving through conditions that would make most people stay in bed.
Lit is the real deal. He doesn’t do it for the likes. He does it because he understands that the water is a completely different, peaceful world in the winter. Seeing him glide past the expo halls reminds everyone that the entry barrier for this sport is purely mental. With the right gear and a bit of grit, the riding season never actually ends.
Master the River. Bumps, Currents, and Flow.
Riding on a river like the Rhine is a different beast than a glassy lake. You have to deal with what we call “squirrels” and subsurface turbulences. Because of the current and the way water moves around obstacles, the ride can feel a little bumpy and unpredictable at first.
Many riders feel a bit uncomfortable during their first river session. They have a level of respect for the current that, while good, is often more than is actually needed. Once you have done it a few times, you realize these “bumps” are just part of the texture of the water. You learn to read the flow, find the clean lines, and realize it is just as easy as lake riding once you find your rhythm. For now, just know that knowing your entry point and staying aware of the current is half the battle.

The smartest riders we know don’t buy their boards in the middle of a heatwave. They buy them now. There is a strategic logic to testing in January, February, and March.

We emphasize free test lessons in the winter because we want to prove it is not a “hardman” contest. It is a gear game. A 6mm hooded suit from O’Neill or Rip Curl turns the biting wind into a non-factor. Once you are up on the foil, your core temperature rises, and the “cold” simply becomes part of the scenery.
