Calanova Unleashed

Mallorca’s Hidden Hub for the Future of Water Sports

Where asymmetric design meets electric adrenaline and a new lifestyle begins

“When you invent a new way to fly,” says Markos Kern with a smile, “you can’t expect it to take off just anywhere.”

It’s a mindset that blends vision, feeling and a touch of rebellion. It sits at the core of Calanova, Europe’s most sophisticated electric water sports hub. Tucked into the vibrant entry of Mallorca’s Calanova Port, just minutes from Palma’s city centre, this sculptural multilevel terrace of wood, steel and sails is not just a staging area for eFoils and electric jetboards. It is a living, breathing manifesto.

“I wanted to build a place that reflects the experience of flying over water,” says Kern, artist and visionary behind the Calanova Hub from eFoil Riders. “I wasn’t about to settle for a picnic table and a beach shack.” Our riders are seeking something else. Movement, elegance and inspiration. The architecture had to speak that language before they even stepped onto the water.”

Where Architecture Imitates Momentum

The result is much more than just a building. The Calanova base feels like something alive. An experience shaped into architecture. Asymmetrical terraces built from warm, reddish-brown Bangkirai wood stretch out beneath deep grey sails that ripple in the breeze like wild wings. Every element plays with the light: morning sun pours in, the midday heat slips into shade, and by evening, the top deck glows golden as the day winds down.

“Nothing is symmetric,” says Kern. “That was intentional. I wanted people to walk around, sit, lie down, climb, explore. It’s almost like a jungle canopy, soothing, natural, alive. Every angle, every material invites you to touch, feel, experience.”

Tropical plants with broad, dramatic leaves grow freely through the steel structures, softening the edges and weaving nature into the design. Underfoot, synthetic grass feels like the perfect patch of lawn. Ideal for barefoot moments or prepping your board.

“You’re not waiting here,” Kern adds with a grin. “You’ve already arrived.”

Designed Like a Club, Built Like a Yacht

Kern’s background in designing iconic clubs and nightlife spaces around the world plays a quiet but meaningful role here. “In clubs, everyone shows up for different reasons,” he explains. “Some want to dance, some just watch, some are there to connect. That’s the mindset I brought to Calanova. Some guests come to ride. Others just want to unwind. And some simply enjoy soaking it all in, with friends, family or a good coffee.”

The result is a social layout that enables flow. You can park easily. Change in upscale facilities. Sip coffee at the café or stay for dinner at the fine restaurant right next door. From early morning training sessions to golden-hour chillouts, everything supports the rhythm of experience.

Even the design’s inspiration nods back to sailing: “From a distance, it almost looks like some futuristic ship that’s landed on shore,” Kern laughs. “It’s our way of honoring the port and the sport.”

The New Micro-Escape: One Day, Infinite Recharge

Calanova is a place where anyone can pause, breathe, and recharge. Whether you’re an entrepreneur, creative, explorer, or simply someone looking for balance, Calanova offers a unique experience by the water. That’s why Calanova was made to feel effortless, even for quick getaways. Located just minutes from Palma, it’s easy to reach and perfect for a quick escape. Step off the dock, and everything falls into place, letting you relax and enjoy the moment, fully. Forget about the jet-set lifestyle. Today, true luxury means being spontaneous.

Take Kai, 43, a self-made tech entrepreneur from Munich who calls Calanova his “weekly recharge station.” “I used to own an eFoil,” Kai shares, “but I hardly ever used it. Packing, traveling, organizing. It took all the fun away. Then I found Calanova. Now I fly to Mallorca in the morning, catch a quick ride, take a few video calls from the port lounge, maybe cruise along the coast for a bit, and I’m back home in time for Monday meetings.” He laughs. “The whole roundtrip costs me less than a taxi to my client’s office in Stuttgart. Plus, I get sun, sea, speed, and a plate of tapas. That’s what I call optimized living.” Weekends often include his wife and kids. He rides, they relax on the beach. Evenings mean great food downtown, with hotel rooms just steps from the dock. “It’s the only place I know where I can be this efficient and still feel like I’m on holiday,” he says.

More Than a Hub

Calanova isn’t just a launch pad for watersports. It’s a place where you can take calls, get some work done, or simply enjoy a snack while letting the sea inspire you. Whether you’re focused on tasks or fully in holiday mode, it offers the perfect balance between productivity and relaxation.

“We’re not just building for recreation,” Kern explains. “We’re building for transformation. The feeling you get here changes your week, your mood, your perspective.”

Kern’s passion shines through when he talks about the community growing around eFoil Riders. Entrepreneurs, athletes, artists, all connected by a shared experience that feels like surfing the future. “The people we meet through this are fascinating,” he says. “It’s not just about the tech or the boards. It’s about who you become when you ride. That’s why this space had to be more than functional. It had to be emotional, artistic, and unforgettable.” From Mallorca to Munich, eFoil Riders is growing fast. But Calanova remains its beating heart. A place where sport, art, innovation, and lifestyle come together under wind-swept sails and flowing wooden curves. A place designed not for the masses, but for those looking for something more.

Curious? Good. You’re meant to be.
